Head In The Clouds
Young audiences can discover the incredible true story of one of France’s first female aviators when Head in the Clouds visits Bath’s egg theatre on Saturday 2nd May with performances at 11.30am and 3pm. This odyssey of the skies tells the greatest tale that history ever forgot - the life and adventures of Marie Marvingt, a young woman who yearned for unbound freedom. Performed through puppetry, story-telling and physical theatre with live piano, accordion and guitar, this witty and beguiling stage show is recommended for ages 5 years and over.
Marie Marvingt - otherwise known as 'The Fiancée of Danger' - was no ordinary woman. Born in the hills of Auriallac, France; at the age of fifteen, when her mother died, she raised her siblings single-handedly. She learnt four different languages including Esperanto, got a degree, became a prize-winning cook, dancer, gymnast, swimmer, fencer, bob-sledder and canoed from Paris to Germany. However, this wasn't quite enough. She longed for something more. She longed to fly!
Head in the Clouds: The Peregrinations of Marie Marvingt features some imaginative fiction as well as fact; however, the most unbelievable aspects of the story are the ones which are true. A real trailblazer, Marie was an amazing individual, one of several from the early 20th century with a zesty energy for adventure who seem to have lived impossibly full lives.
