Phoenix River Band's music, a potent mix of original songs with driving beats and soulful melodies, is a style best described as 'Atlanticana' - a mix of Country Rock, Soft Rock, Blues and Rock fusing elements from both sides of 'The Pond' and as one reviewer said "imagine cruising in a Cadillac with Chris Rea at the wheel, Pink Floyd and the Allman Brothers in the back, and maybe some Eagles flying overhead
Centred around Chris Melhuish, who writes the songs, for the most part sings them, and plays some pretty mean blues-infused guitar, is a band with a stellar line up: the rhythm section of Dave Dunster on drums and Mike Pitt on bass are the heart and soul of this outfit; keyboardist Andy Allpass on organ and piano, his playing tasteful and expert; guitarist Jim Hodgson plays acoustic and electric guitars adding depth to the sound nicely and vocalists Jo Melhuish and Shelley Dunster bringing their signature harmonies - all of them integral to the band's distinctive sound. The band are now working on their 4th album which will be released in the New Year to accompany their earlier 'Empty Road', 'Lights' and 'Under the All Seeing Eye (Live)' albums
Phoenix River Band
Phoenix River Band - a potent mix of original songs with driving beats and soulful melodies, in a style best described as ‘Atlanticana’ – fusing the sounds of Rock, Blues and Country Rock from both sides of the ‘Pond’. Music that is rooted in the songwriting ethos of the 60s and 70s delivered by a band that sounds like one from that period but, in truth, sound like no one but themselves. Blues-infused guitar, with nicely fluid solos and twin lead guitar ; a rhythm section that are the heart and soul of this outfit; keyboard playing tasteful and very expert; backing vocalists that blend nicely in harmony with very soulful voices – all integral to the band’s overall sound.
