Christmas is a time for families and old friends – for well-loved tunes and good cheer. But it's also a time of mystery and wonder: of silent nights, and sounds that echo across centuries.
From medieval carols to visionary modern masterpieces, The Sixteen's 2024 festive programme takes its inspiration from the story at the heart of the season: a baby in a stable, surrounded by simply heavenly singing.
The Sixteen
After 40 years of worldwide performance and recording, The Sixteen is recognised as one of the world's greatest ensembles. Comprising both choir and period-instrument orchestra, The Sixteen's commitment to the music it performs is its greatest distinction. A reputation for performing early English polyphony, Renaissance masterpieces, Baroque and early Classical music and a diversity of 20th and 21st century music, is drawn from the passions of conductor and founder Harry Christophers CBE.
