Calendar Girls

Banbury Cross Players' very own group of extraordinary women are thrilled to be joining forces with hundreds of other women across the globe in an effort to raise both awareness of and funds for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research in the shape of this extraordinary theatrical event.

When Annie Clarke and close friend Chris come up with an unusual idea to raise funds for a comfortable sofa for the hospital visitors’ lounge - a calendar featuring members of the Women's Institute posing nude while engaged in WI activities! The initial print run sells out and before long the village of Knapeley is bombarded with international media keen to report on the feel-good story.

Annie's husband John Clarke grew sunflowers from the onset of the illness that eventually killed him and gave them to friends and family in the hope that he would have recovered by the time they flowered. The sunflower lives on as a reminder of his life and has become the symbol for the ladies fundraising.

Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research have continued to benefit from what the Calendar Girls of Knapeley began and Banbury Cross Players are proud to be part of a global attempt to make this play the most performed by Amateur Companies.

This production has been re-scheduled from 23rd November 2012- 1st December 2012.
