Ashburton Live
Tommy Smith and Brian Kellock are two of the UK's leading jazz musicians. Their work separately constitutes many volumes of high class jazz experience: saxophonist Smith starting as teenage saxophonist with Gary Burton and going on through a career that includes recording for Blue Note, leading his own bands, founding and directing the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra, and touring the world with Arild Andersen's state of the art trio; Kellock as the master musician's chosen accompanist and BBC Jazz Award-winning piano trio leader. And together they have recorded three acclaimed duo albums as well as creating the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra's ecstatically received Rhapsody in Blue Live and In the Spirit of Duke albums.
In concert, as their rapturously received appearance at Rochester Jazz Festival 2014 in New York confirmed, they make sublime music spontaneously, playing with passion, tenderness, and soulfulness and presenting it with good humour.
Featuring
Tommy Smith
Performer, composer and bandleader, saxophonist Tommy Smith has explored classical composition as well as jazz and blues. 'It's a classic. The saxophonist's blend of frailty and power puts him in the league of colossi such as Lester Young or Stan Getz' (The Guardian's John Fordham on Whispering Of The Stars).
