Tomorrow's Ancestor - The Skeleton Crew

After 25 years in existence, the current incarnation of the much-loved Derbyshire folk/roots band Tomorrow's Ancestor has the intriguing additional moniker 'Skeleton Crew', and features original instigator, singer-songwriter Brian Boothby, now also on low whistles. He is joined by international touring fretless bassman Dave Sturt and Mark 'Mad Fiddler' Knight. This stripped-back, pokey and dynamic 3-piece deal in both great dance grooves and thought-provoking songs, in which they drive an irresistible feelgood vibe while also not shying away from speaking out on current issues, particularly the environment.

Individually, Brian Boothby has released numerous albums, notably his latest, 'Firegazing', working with Dave Sturt, Stainsby Festival's Chris Ellis and international classical virtuoso violinist Adam Summerhayes, which 'won friends and influenced people' from Alport to Argentina!. A regular at Glastonbury and the Green Gatherings, both as player and organiser of acoustic music stages, he will be delivering a turn of phrase both poetic and uncompromising, sound rhythm-playing and some spine chilling low whistle tunes.

Dave Sturt has been steadily carving out an enviable reputation as a superb fretless bass player with the likes of Gong, Steve Hillage and Bill Nelson among others, and will be anchoring Skeleton Crew with bass moves from bluegrass to drum and bass, but always laid on with his hallmark subtlety and style. Dave also releases his own music, notably the album 'Dreams and Absurdities' which received critical acclaim.

Mark Knight has one foot in the Bristol folk-based act K-Passa and works in sound design, but has been moonlighting with Tomorrows Ancestor for ten years now, bringing a unique fiddling talent, an element of showmanship, and a healthy dose of pedal technology to transport old tunes firmly into the 21st century.

Together, Skeleton Crew shape-shift the Tomorrows Ancestor material, new and old, into a new generation of alt-fest-tinged folk/roots for the 2020s. A rare gig not to be missed.
