Featuring

Justin Currie

Justin Currie appearing at this event

Scottish singer/songwriter, most famous for his role as founder member of popular rock group Del Amitri, writing many of their biggest hits, including 'Roll To Me', 'Always The Last To Know', and 'Nothing Ever Happens'. Currently working as a successful solo artist, Justin Currie's music is dominated by strong imagery and storytelling, powerful yet understated vocals and a sound that, whilst firmly rooted in nineties pop-rock, translates beautifully into modern, urban ballads. With influences from Nick Cave, Crowded House and Mark Lanegan, his music is hauntingly dark, yet refreshingly uplifting.

Richard Jobson

Richard Jobson appearing at this event

From school punk to modern day film producer Richard Jobson has lived a full and colourful life. A harrowing incident as a child left him suffering with epilepsy but he was a mere 15 year old when he launched the punk rock band The Skids in 1977 with his songwriting partner Stuart Adamson. After four albums The Skids folded and Jobson formed The Armoury Show whilst Adamson moved on to form his new band Big Country. In the 1980s Jobson became a familiar face on television as a presenter on '01 For London' and as film reviewer for Sky Television. In June 2013, he was awarded an honorary degree (Doctor of Arts) from Edinburgh Napier University. With a life that has gone full circle in 2017 he reactivated The Skids.

C Duncan

C Duncan appearing at this event

Glasgow’s C Duncan, is the son of two classical musicians. Surrounded by music throughout his childhood, Christopher initially took up piano and viola. His teens led him to school bands, learning to play guitar, bass and drums, but did little to quell his fascination with the composition and performance of classical music. He eventually enrolled in Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama to study music composition, where his pieces were performed by various ensembles across the UK. To hear C Duncan’s music now is to grasp those two common threads between his interests in classical and modern music. The pieces that made up his 2015 Mercury Music Prize nominated debut LP 'Architect' were formed from lush choral harmonies and acoustic instrumentation, textured like contemporary dreampop and all recorded at home in Glasgow on his bedroom studio setup, gradually built up one layer and one instrument at a time. His 2016 follow-up 'The Midnight Sun' continued in a similar vein but with progression. The results of this methodical and isolationist recording process give us charming lo-fi folk with the harmonic width of choral composition, the sweetness of barbershop and the rough eloquence that has so readily soundtracked Glasgow over the past decades.

Kathryn Joseph

Kathryn Joseph appearing at this event

Prodigiously talented and criminally underrated; Kathryn is one of Scotland's best-kept secrets. Her voice possesses the other-worldly quality comparable to Ms Newsom and Björk; but she is by no means of an ilk. Better compared with Anthony Heggarty; she is an artist in every way; unique and soulful, and at the core a beautiful unnerving truth.
