Annual CoCA Lecture: Clare Twomey, The Story Of Making

Clare Twomey is one of the UK’s leading ceramic artists. She is a research fellow at the University of Westminster who works with clay in large-scale installations, sculpture and site-specific works.

Over the past 10 years she has exhibited at the Victoria and Albert Museum, Tate, Crafts Council, Museum of Modern Art Kyoto Japan, the Eden Project and the Royal Academy of Arts. Within these works Clare has maintained her concerns with materials, craft practice and historic and social context.

Her installations have the social and historical context in which the installation is created as their point of departure. A number of her installations disappear or perish in the course of the exhibition period as part of the work.

Clare is currently working on a piece of work that will be installed at York Art Gallery when it reopens in 2015 following an £8 million capital development project. The Centre of Ceramic Art (CoCA) is a new resource set up within the newly redeveloped York Art Gallery, to promote our collections of British studio ceramics through exhibitions, commissions, research and symposia.

Drinks will be on sale after the lecture.
