Bricks And Mortals: Ten Great Buildings And The People They Made
Architectural historian and writer Tom Wilkinson reveals the intimate relationship between architecture and society through ten great buildings – from the Tower of Babel in modern Iraq and Palazzo Rucellai in Florence both demonstrations of power to Detroit's Highland Park car factory built for work and Eileen Gray's French Riviera villa built to organise sex. Wilkinson says the economic erotic political and psychological aspects of buildings are crucial to a proper understanding of architecture.
Wilkinson teaches architectural history at University College London where he is also writing a doctoral thesis on art history. He is also history editor of the Architectural Review.
