International authority on gardens and gardening George Plumptre describes the making of some of the great English country house gardens and the parts played by their owners.
Plumptre, chief executive of the National Gardens Scheme selects his subjects from his new book English Country House Gardens. He takes a fresh look at the English country house garden focusing on the owners and the stories behind the making of the gardens. He ranges from the Victorian grandeur of Tyntesfield and Cragside to the Arts and Crafts simplicity of Rodmarton Manor and Charleston and to perennial favourites Hidcote and Great Dixter.
Along the way he also visits some never-before-photographed new gardens.Plumptre is a former gardening correspondent for the Times. He has lectured on garden subjects across the world and contributed articles to many leading publications.
