Remembrance Day is a day to commemorate the sacrifices of members of the armed forces and of civilians in times of war. It is observed on 11 November, the day that World War I ended in 1918. The nearest Sunday to the 11th is known as Remembrance Sunday, when ceremonies are held in tribute of those involved in the wars.

This year saw the passing of the last surviving British soldier to have fought in the First World War. With their passing, we lose the living memory of a conflict which in just over four years cost the lives of nearly a million servicemen from Britain and its Empire. This loss of a generation makes this year's Remembrance even more poignant.

Remembrance Sunday falls on November 8th, and we have compiled a list of just some of the events taking place across the UK to honour the occasion.
