Dingwalls, London

We've suddenly found ourselves in a scene where female singers are appearing all over the place. Winehouse, Nash, Allen, Tunstall, Melua and now, Amy Macdonald - although the Scottish born singer seems to have taken more of a step back from the publicity and headlines than the likes of say, Amy Winehouse or Lily Allen, now regulars in the world of tabloid scandal and debauchery.
In the last throws of what is supposedly meant to be summer, a muggy night at the legendary Dingwalls in Camden is the perfect setting for a singer whose music conjures feelings of warm summer days and cool, calming breezes.
At around nine fifteen, the spacious venue was packed full with a real mix of ages in the crowd, perhaps highlighting the wide appeal of the young Glaswegian singer, an appeal that doesn't just start and end with indie kids but instead takes on a more eclectic role.
If you've heard Amy Macdonald's voice before, you will understand why she's as popular as she is. To hear her sing live though, is something you have to do to fully appreciate just how good she actually is. Her unique and powerful voice carried with the feeling and soul needed in order to make tonight something quite special indeed.
Her debut album This is The Life already feels like a classic, with everyone singing along, showcasing just how quick her appeal has spread in what seems like such a short space of time.
Album favourites Poison Prince and This is The Life are propelled forward with an energy and excitement that resonates throughout the jammed venue, proving that there clearly is a popular appeal for her infusion of catchy folk and pop driven songs. New single L.A. sets heads nodding, while the mellow tones of Run trickle slowly out until the sing along chorus pours forth like a giant waterfall.
Crowd favourite Mr Rock and Roll was greeted with the enthusiasm you'd expect and, as the song bounced along with vigour and charm, you couldn't help but think that Amy Macdonald has achieved something to be extremely proud of here tonight.
A surprisingly good cover of The Killers' Mr Brightside proved quite a treat as she played it with enough heart and emotion to really make it her own.
Overall, this was a show that had everything you could have wanted and more, and one can't help but feel that this talented young singer songwriter will soon be filling bigger and better venues across the country some time in the very near future.
