Synth-pop queen Little Boots has topped the BBC's Sound of 2009 Poll, after being chosen by more than 130 of the UK's most knowledgeable and influential music critics and broadcasters. Writer, producer and performer, Little Boots (aka Victoria Hesketh) is a popstar for the 21st Century, taking everything that's brilliant about pop and revitalising it with catchy, original tunes and cool sounds. She found an audience for her versions of songs by Joni Mitchell, Girls Aloud, The Human League, and Madonna on her YouTube channel and has recently performed on Later...with Jools Holland. Little Boots is currently recording an album due for release later this year. Hotly tipped London rockers White Lies came in at number two, whilst Florence and The Machine, a one-woman force of bluesy rock, was at number three. Australians Empire Of The Sun took the number four spot, with La Roux and Lady GaGa at numbers five and six respectively. Singer/songwriter VV Brown was voted in at number seven, Kid Cudi at number eight, Passion Pit at number nine and Dan Black at number ten. Other acts who were given nods towards success in 2009 included The Big Pink, Master Shortie, Mumford & Sons, The Temper Trap and FrankMusik.
