This passionate Greek tragedy is, sadly, as relevant today as it was when it was written over 2,400 years ago. The terrors and tragedy of war have not changed- it continues to bring as much wretchedness to the victors as to the defeated. After nine years of fighting, the Greeks have defeated the Trojans. The victorious men have inflicted the most ruthless violence on defenceless women and children but only see the glory of war. Eight battered women, who have seen their husbands killed, their families enslaved and the land that reared them destroyed, await their fate.
