Shane Acker's 2005 computer animated short film '9' is made into a feature film by producers Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov and stars the voice talents of Elijah Wood and Jennifer Connelly. The film is set in a grimy, post-apocalyptic version of Earth, populated by nine strange little creatures - not quite human, not quite dolls - stitched together like Frankenstein monsters out of anything found in an arts and crafts store. Dispersed after a Terminator-esque rise of the machines, the story's nine protagonists must fight a giant, soul-stealing mechanism. 9 is a clever animation worth checking out, with interesting concepts and great animation.
