The Invention of Lying 
In a world where humankind has never developed the capability to speak untruths, Mark Bellison (Ricky Gervais) - an overweight, under-wealthy, unappreciated average dude - discovers an astounding way of increasing his social status - he tells the world's first lie. With everyone assuming that he is telling the truth, Mark's lies soon bring him fame and fortune, as he takes advantage of everyone around him. But, even with his superiority and power of lying, he cannot lie himself into the thing he wants most - the heart of the woman he loves.
