Mesrine: Public Enemy Number One is the second part of a French film based on the true story of the rise of the notorious and utterly ruthless gangster, Jacques Mesrine. Picking up right after Mesrine: Killer Instinct, Mesrine stages an audacious courtroom escape by kidnapping a judge at gunpoint. Declared public enemy number one, Mesrine is soon captured by his tenacious pursuer Commander Broussard (Olivier Gourmet) and thrown into a maximum-security prison for his efforts. It isn't long before Mesrine and a fellow inmate are planning another daring escape - which subsequently happens in an excellent prison break sequence, allowing Mesrine to disappear into the criminal underworld. Full of action and just as good as part one, Mesrine: Public Enemy Number One is a must see, even if just to see the sensational performance of Vincent Cassel as the titular character.
