Year One
The ever loveable Jack Black and Michael Cera star as hunter gatherers in this erratic and unfortunately unfocused caveman comedy very loosely based on events from the Bible. Having been shunned from the rest of the tribe for eating from the tree of knowledge, the pair begin an epic journey to find the ends of the earth, get the girl and save the day. But what starts out with a lot of comic potential, quickly descends into obvious sexual innuendo and slapstick, combined with a narrative so trite that its only purpose is to move from one cringeworthy gag to the next. The film does have the odd moment of comic genius, usually when the two stars are pushed out of their 'acting safe-zone', but those expecting a modern day Life Of Brian will be sorely disappointed.
