Telstar: The Joe Meek Story
Telstar tells the story of British songwriter and music producer Joe Meek, whose ground-breaking recording techniques and otherworldly pop records made him the premier independent pop producer in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Telstar takes its name from the tune composed by Meek and performed by his in-house band The Tornados - the first British group to have a US Number 1. The film follows Meek as his life begins to crumble. Armed with a lousy business sense and emotional volatility, Meek's troubles begin to take their toll and he starts to alienate everyone he's ever worked with. The film is an insightful look at a man who has done so much for music, but is somewhat forgotten. The film boasts a decent cast too, including Kevin Spacey, Con O'Neill, Pam Ferris, James Corden and Ralf Little, plus an excellent soundtrack.
