Coco Before Chanel/ Coco avant Chanel
Freely adapted from the Chanel biography 'L'Irreguliere' by Edmonde Charles-Roux, Coco Before Chanel is an extravagant biopic recounting the life and work of celebrated French fashion designer Coco Chanel, from her modest beginnings in an Auvergne orphanage in the late 1800s after the death of her mother and abandonment by her father. Audrey Tatou stars in the title role as Gabrielle 'Coco' Chanel, whose inspiration and determination eventually took her to the most elevated position in the male-dominated fashion industry. Tautou gives a superb performance as the headstrong, self-sufficient French designer who, in pre-First World War France, was one of the first women to assert herself in a man's world.
