Dragonball Evolution
Continuing the trend of turning much loved niche properties into geek-chic for the easily amused is Dragonball Evolution, a Manga-turned-anime-turned-movie. When Goku's grandfather dies, he sets off to find legendary martial artist Master Roshi, hoping to use the Dragon Balls - a set of orange orbs that grant wishes. However, an alien named Piccolo has other ideas, and seeks to find them himself. Queue an hour and a half of a coming-of-age movie, thinly veiled by characters with the - admittedly enviable - ability to shoot energy from their hands. Fans of the series be warned, this is not the story you know and love, and the liberal westernization of the plot will make your stomachs turn. For everyone else, this feels like a bad made-for-TV movie with the quality of the special effects only just equalling that of a child with a box of half chewed crayons.
