Am I Black Enough For You?
Director Goran Olsson has picked Billy Paul as the subject of his latest work, successfully piecing together footage from taped interviews, musical archives and recent performances to create this fascinating look at the man that brought his smooth vocal talents to 1972 hit 'Me And Mrs. Jones'. Focusing not just on his musical achievements, the documentary's approach is much wider, looking at the man's tumultuous life, his relationships with those around him and his views on the society of the time. Taking its title from his less well-known follow up single, Am I Black Enough For You? is, rather intentionally, no 'Walk The Line' or 'Ray', but music buffs will find a lot to like in this unbiased, well crafted film of a Grammy award winning star's life story.
