When Jared's mom announces that they're leaving New York and going to live in the secluded and, frankly, creepy house owned by their great uncle Spiderwick, the family aren't very happy about it. But, while his brother and sister seem to be able to get on with life in the country, Jared (Freddie Highmore) finds it hard to adjust. When strange things begin to happen in the house, Jared gets the blame, even though he's innocent. Determined to clear his name, he goes looking for clues and comes across a secret room belonging to his great uncle.
