V For Vendetta 
The team behind The Matrix trilogy team up with a shaven-headed Natalie Portman for this adaptation of Alan Moore's powerful graphic novel from the 1980s. Set against the futuristic landscape of a totalitarian Britain, Portman plays Evey Hammond, a young woman who falls in with an anarchist known as V (Hugo Weaving) when he saves her from the secret police. This mysterious masked character is trying to bring down the fascist government led by the Chancellor (John Hurt) and restore democracy by igniting revolution. He invites his fellow citizens to join him at the House of Parliament on November 5, when he intends to blow up the building. Mixing angry political thriller with big budget fantasy, V For Vendetta is certainly as relevant as it was 20 years ago. But the dark, heavy themes make for difficult viewing with only Portman's shocking English accent offering light relief.
