Shaun Of The Dead
A wonderfully British riposte to the gung-ho, bullet-blazing American remake of 'Dawn of The Dead'. Shaun (Simon Pegg) is bored with the mind-numbing boredom of his daily life. Luckily, there are swarms of shuffling undead everywhere. Coming from the 'Spaced' team, however, this isn't just a well-observed thriller, it's quirky comedy too. The zombie element is played straight, allowing the humour (and romance) to come from the character's bickering and banter. The jokes and set-pieces don't always work, but overall, this snappy, knowing and witty film is the best British comedy in ages.
