No one who sees this band can deny that Sam means every single word he sings. Implanted into his psyche is a need to create a response to his performance, a justifiably arrogant plea for understanding. Luckily Coast have the tools for the job. Longtime friends and collaborators Darren and Alan are a watertight rhythm section, with a supple, slinky approach to the beat. Sam's guitar fills in the gaps with elegant fury and unexpected twists while his voice sits on top of it all like a cherry in a tight T-shirt. It takes in influences from the great emotional singers (Buckley, Isaak, Yorke, Stipe), and adds a slightly camp snarl to the mix (Anderson, Molko, Corgan). It is distinctive, seductive, and strong - a perfect description of Coast as a whole.
