At The Lemon Tree, Aberdeen
Wed 1 Jul - Sun 19 Jul 2009

Jutta’s link with the North-east began last November when she attended an exhibition opening in Regensburg of Aberdeen artist Alison Watson, called Once Upon A Time, which was funded through the twinning programme of both cities. Her artwork is constructed in silk and cotton fabrics and she uses quilting, patchwork, embroidery and machine sewing, adorning them with sequins and pearls. The images she creates are of mermaids on lily pads, flowers, butterflies caught in spider webs, figures and abstract compositions. Her inspiring contemporary approach to a traditional style of art includes the written word and 11 of the 12 quilts on show have poems written by Jutta in German and translated by Warda Schweiger into English which will be on display next to each respective artwork. The fabric works are framed in glazed box frames similar to how a precious butterfly may be pinned into a frame so the viewer can admire the detail and beauty of the object but not touch it.
