Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks

Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks

It is quite plausible to say that this guy is responsible for modern rock music today. As the former front man with Pavement, Stephen Malkmus married melody to a fuzz box and gave birth to a thousand imitators. A legend in the making.

The Dirty Three

Atmospheric, haunting melodies from this Australian group. Hailed as the finest Antipodean three-piece since The Dead C and having toured globally with acts as diverse as Nick Cave, the Beastie Boys, John Cale, Pavement and Henry Rollins, the Dirty Three are viewed as 'exceptional in many respects. An instrumental, violin-led trio who are lauded by the music intelligentsia but who embody the primitive appeal of rock?n?roll unlike any other' BELLAUNION.com

The Princes of Sub-Pop and one of the founder members of Seattle grunge, Mudhoney's dark and sleazy style oozes with a dirty, primitive, sensual passion and leaves you devilishly dirty. Touch them, they're sick.

Deerhoof

Deerhoof

Crazy electro-pop from California. Fronted by the bitter-sweet vocals of Satomi Matsuzaki, Deerhoof are the kind of band who deliberately lull listeners into a false sense of security, by slowly introducing a melody and then ripping it away before it ever takes hold. Backed by meandering synths and eighties dance-pop guitars the group have become a favourite amongst fans of the art-electro genre. ‘…the music of Deerhoof is anchored by sweet melodies and hypnotic rhythmic movement. Though it veers in and out of pop territory, the California-based quartet is just as betrothed to chance and intuition as their less listenable counterparts.’ - PopMatters

F*** Buttons

F*** Buttons

F*ck Buttons bring new sensibilities to the obscure art of noise. Using severely distorted children's keyboards, guitar, vocals and piezo contacts on metallic surfaces, they create a searing, painful yet passionate sound with interesting underlying aesthetics and a compelling stage presence.

Sleepy Sun

Sleepy Sun

Sleepy Sun is an apt title for this young San Francisco sextet, as their debut record, 'Embrace', is one of those rare slabs of rock and roll that will wake you up in the morning, and send you off to sleep at night. After honing their craft in the occult influenced creative community of Santa Cruz, the band has continued to grow, both creatively and in their loyal following, since their relocation to the city by the bay. With their throbbing rhythm section, swirling sea of guitars, and dreamy, haunting duet vocals, the word dynamic is a severe understatement.

Formed in Melbourne as a four piece in early 2000, The Drones are one of Australian rock's most critically acclaimed acts. Their sound has been described as a car crash inside a washing machine; sometimes chaotic and stern, sometimes melodic and joyful.
