The Mahotella Queens

Were pivotal in the cultural resistance to apartheid, and were idols to South Africas black communities in those dark times. A powerful hybrid of traditional music drawing on Zulu, Sotho, Shangaan, Xhosa and South African jazz (Marabi). 'The Mahotella Queens represent so much of what is best in the music of South Africa : the finely honed art of passionate singing, the lattice of funky rhythms, and the breathtaking art of spectacular live performance' (Womex 2000 award Proclaimation - naming the Mahotella Queens as world music artist of the year 2000)

Ty

Born in Nigeria but raised in London, Ty takes in a myriad of influences, as is evident on his recent collaboration with Femi Kuti's drummer, Tony Allen. A product of the North London spoken word/ poetry/hip-hop scene. After his 2001 debut 'Awkward' on the BigDada label Ty has busied himself touring and performing with like-minded artist Biznizz and recording his follow up. A rare and genuine talent. Check him!
