More Information

The Hold Steady

The Hold Steady

Brooklyn based five-piece making blues-laden geek-rock for the 21st century. Although The Hold Steady's sound will probably appeal to fans of older bands such as Eels, Ben Folds and The Lemonheads, their sound is bang-up-to-date, illustrated by the success of their 2008 single 'Sequestered In Memphis'.

David Thomas Broughton

Broughton builds, layers and then almost destroys his songs, resulting in the most beautiful music a man can make. 'Remarkable, like a timeless classic'- angryape.com.

Darren Hayman (ex-Hefner)

Darren Hayman (ex-Hefner)

The former frontman of celebrated late nineties indie heroes Hefner, Darren now has a solo career, which includes songs he wrote in a caravan. His songs cover a range of subjects such as crumbling crafts, dog charities, retiring school teachers and air hostesses plummeting to their death.

Dirty Projectors

Dirty Projectors

From the same hand made coat as Final Fantasy, Beirut and Caribou, Dirty Projectors is the conceptual pop group helmed by David Longstreth, a young Brooklynite with a house full of beautiful hand-blown water bongs (one imagines). Listening to the band, one also imagines Longstreth's brainiac avant-garde compositions arriving in an antique sleigh pulled by a herd of stony ponies and has brilliantly crafted incredibly befuddling pop music.

First Aid Kit

First Aid Kit

The Swedish duo First Aid Kit comprises sisters Johanna and Klara Söderberg.

Herman Dune

Herman Dune

Swedish-rooted French-based alt-country rockers who make densely atmospheric, acoustic folk rock.

Iain Archer

Iain Archer's reputation has been built considerably by his part in the indie rock outfit Snow Patrol, although his career as a solo artist precedes the band by almost a decade, having released several albums in the 1990s on the Sticky Music label. Iain's award-winning songwriting is now once again flourishing, having released the album Flood The Tanks in 2004 and touring on his own once more.

Neko Case

Neko Case

Canada-based DIY Alt-country artist, member of The New Pornographers and Maow. Case has, throughout her career, stayed true to her artistic integrity and independence, rejecting offers by major labels and remaining with Mint Records, Bloodshot and ANTI-. Her strong public image and innovative songwriting have made her an important figure in Canadian music.

Richmond Fontaine

Richmond Fontaine formed in 1993 in Portland OR, the band coming together through a mutual love of The Replacements, The Blasters, X, Willie Nelson and Husker Du. Writers and fans raved about the band's powerful live blend of rock, country, punk and folk music. Equally admired were the strong story-based songs of singer Willy Vlautin, which were often compared to the stark short stories of writers such as Raymond Carver and Larry Brown - and could easily stand alone as works of prose. 'mind-blowing..absolute perfection'- UNCUT.

Tiny Vipers

Jesy Fortino's music is often compared to early Cat Power and Joanna Newsom. Her songs, delicate to begin with and often ending in discordant noise, continue to be classified using adjectives like 'spare' and 'haunting', but those terms fail in terms of its emotional content. She is publicly coming to terms with her interpretive skills as well as her own demons, and is doing it through an intensely vulnerable medium to boot.

Wildbirds & Peacedrums

Wildbirds & Peacedrums

Swedish duo consisting of singer and percussionist whose twist on the basic White Stripes-style set-up comes down like a freak-folkish poetry recital in a cider mill. While she could easily pass for a Devendra Banhart in drag, Marian's amazing voice displays the world wary soul of Cat Power, Joni Mitchell's jazz range and a pinch of Brigitte Bardot 60s Euro-sophistication.

The Duke And The King

The Duke And The King

The Duke & The King are a glam-soul-folk quartet from New York featuring Simone Felice, Bobbie Bird Burke, Simi Stone and Nowell Haskins. Named after the travelling Shakespeare Hustlers in Mark Twain's 'The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn' these curious blood-brothers (and sweet sister) have found a home together, a travelling church of harmony and sin where its OK to French kiss your cousin and all strays are welcome to come out of the cold and sing along to songs of love, loss, pathos and hope.

Vetiver

Vetiver

San Franciscan band Vetiver, Andy Cabic’s ever-evolving line-up of bay area musicians (including at one time or another Devendra Banhart) released their debut album in 2004, which was highly praised by critics and received gratefully by the public. Cabic’s troupe of contemporary folk and country musicians has made Vetiver one of the most unusual and interesting bands on the scene, and has nurtured musicians such as Banhart, Joanna Newsom and Alissa Anderson at the beginnings of their careers. ‘Vetiver are named after an aromatic East Indian grass that grows in California, and their music delivers on the sunny, hazy sweetness the band's name suggests.’ (NME)

Loney Dear

Loney Dear

'Textural newcomers include clarinets, floor-toms and pump-organs to enhance the sonic landscape surrounding the beautiful melodies that sometimes echo age-old church hymns.'
