It is 1937. The setting is the exquisite state rooms of the royal residence of Balmoral. The Revolution of 1917 did not happen in Russia, but in Britain, and Balmoral has now become a writers’ commune. To the consternation of the warden, Skinner, whose responsibility it is to keep the recalcitrant writers writing and chaos in check, a government inspector is about to call.

More Information

Rik Mayall

Born 3rd March 1958, Rik Mayall first came to prominence in BBC TV's anarchic comedy 'The Young Ones', which he co-wrote with Ben Elton and Lise Mayer. This, together with 'The Comic Strip', which he also co-wrote and starred in with an array of now well-established household names, firmly established so-called 'alternative' comedy on mainstream British television. Arguably, Rik's strongest creation, aside from Rick in 'The Young Ones' is Alan B'stard, the conniving, far right wing Tory MP in ITV's 'The New Statesman'. All of his performances, however, tend to be imbued with a characteristic physical, almost violent style, which he has also employed on stage and the large screen.
