Noel Fielding

Noel Fielding

'Noel spent most of his childhood being chased by butterflies and moths who viewed him as a king...he is a blur of boney-arsed looseness immersed in gaily coloured hipsters, skimming the stage like a shaved bush baby or like an excited child trying to impress an adult'. (Fibbers)

The Ex

'The Ex and called 'The Ex' because 'The Ex' can be sprayed onto a wall in two seconds flat'...seems as good a reason as any! 'The Ex' emerged from the Dutch punk scene in the late 70s, and have developed into a melting pot of divergent musical styles, from jazz to ethnic music to rock.

Andrew Bird (2)

Andrew Bird (2)

Chicago-based multi-instrumentalist and lyricist Andrew Bird picked up his first violin at the age of 4. Actually, it was a Cracker Jack box with a ruler taped to it, and the first of his many Suzuki music lessons involved simply bowing to the teacher and going home. He spent his formative years soaking up classical repertoire completely by ear so when it came time for a restless teen-ager to make the jump to Hungarian Gypsy music, early jazz, country blues, south Indian etc., it wasn't such a giant leap. It's fitting that now, though classically trained, he has instead opted to play his violin in a most unconventional manner, accompanying himself on glockenspiel and guitar, adding singing and whistling to the equation, and becoming a pop songwriter in the process.

Emmy The Great

Emmy The Great

Emmy the Great writes songs for her friends. Her friends are all double crossing liars, and some of them are dead. Emmy seems to have come out of nowhere, sharing an aesthetic backdrop with Cat Power and Regina Spektor. A point of note for any audience would be the directness and frankness with which she approaches lyricism, a keen contender on the British anti-folk scene.
