Broken Records

Broken Records are a seven piece band based in Edinburgh, Scotland. Formed in early 2006 as an antidote to work, they have gigged continuously since then, seeing several members come and go from the fold. It is in this vein that Broken Records started, as a loose amalgam of musicians who would play under one banner when not doing their own work.

Babel

A folky five piece band whose strong songwriting has been getting them airplay on XFM. A visceral blend of Arabic-infused country and folk-rock.

Magistrates

Fresh, cutting edge and unashamedly sexual, Magistrates play music for the mind, feet and hips. Influenced by Prince, Talking Heads and David Bowie.

Sparrow And The Workshop

Sparrow and the Workshop are a Scottish/Welsh/American 3-piece from Glasgow, formed in the dew of January 2008, under the heavy fog of yeast from the Tennents Factory. They play a stripped-down drumkit, a crashbox, a very white bass, a smallish acoustic guitar, a mellow yellow electric slide guitar and occasionally an old french violin alongside boy/girl vocal duets.

Hatcham Social

Choppy, post-punk inspired guitar pop reminiscent of early Postcard Record's acts such as Orange Juice, and Echo And The Bunnymen's more upbeat moments.

Toploader

Guaranteed to get you dancing in the moonlight, sunlight and any other light you care to mention, Eastbourne's favourite sons have come a long way since the release of the hauntingly catchy 'Achilles Heel' in 1999. A top five album, numerous festival headline slots, TV appearances and THAT song that made watching the Jamie Oliver adverts bearable have made them one of indie's shining lights. Capable of funky blues-rock and soaring string balladry, just try resisting the urge to sing along and tap your foot.

Dananananaykroyd

Dananananaykroyd

This Glasgow six-piece formed in January 2006. Drawing on influences from Rocket from the Crypt and Sonic Youth to Jim O'Rourke and Stereolab, they have dubbed their raw brand of music 'Fight Pop'.

Official Secrets Act

Official Secrets Act

Old school 4-piece indie band somewhere between The Housemartins, Blur and The Young Knives. The singer has a strangely quavery voice like Feargal Sharkey meets David Byrne. Also think The View, Weezer and early XTC.

Listed on Ents24.com since: Dec 2006

Pearl and the Puppets

Pearl and the Puppets

Pearl is the quietly rebellious leader of this alternative pop four-piece, which includes her backing band The Puppets. Her atmospheric, innocent and quirky songs capture the coming of age spirit while breaking through the barriers of expectation.

Blue Roses

Laura Groves a.k.a Blue Roses is a Yorkshire singer-songwriter influenced by the likes of Kate Bush and Joanna Newsom. Playing melodic folk that's impeccably arranged, and with the ambience of a soaring vocal and desolate alt-rock guitar.

Kid British

Kid British

Kid British create their own noise by mixing a bit of this with a bit of that and ending up with one big fat manky sandwich. A tasty shank of old school ska and dancehall, a generous twist of indie, a light splash of reggae, and garnished with a juicy slice of electro pop.
