The Slits

Still fronted by Ariane Forster, the Slits were revolutionary on the punk scene in the 70s, evolving their sound to encompass dub and reggae before splitting up in the early 80s. Expect a reggae-layered set which still remains full of punkish attitude.

Rolo Tomassi

25 second assaults alternate with 10 minute sick and twisted trilogies, self destruction, carnage, power, and energy. Over the top of it a girl howls and screams her throat to blood and shreds over moving and powerful, yet meaningless lyrics. It's like a shark attack experience, where you'll find your self mentally swimming in the calm melody before you're hurled through a short, sharp blast of speed and aggression, suddenly you can catch your breathe in some sort of oxygen pocket until you're finally ripped up again by the bands variety, unpredictability and ingenious self expression.

Factory Floor

As abrasively dark as artrock gets at the moment. Clanking and clanging rhythms recall the industrialisms of Throbbing Gristle and Cabaret Voltaire but the droning repetition is a distinctly Germanic groove of Can and Neu. With searing guitars and rumbling bass the most obvious new wave relations are PiL, Wire and Gang of Four.

Brontosaurus Chorus are a 7-piece indie popular beat combo. They take their influence from Sonic Youth, The Cure, Belle & Sebastian, Joy Division, My Life Story, Le Tigre, Arcade Fire and Pulp amongst others. Merging bittersweet melodic summery girl/boy guitar pop with epic basslines and orchestral layers.

Maps

From Northampton, Maps' music is made alone by founder member James in his bedroom, with live band completed by James and August. Maps' musical backdrop is a colourful one, a list of influences ranging from Godspeed to Modest Mouse, and from The Beach Boys to Knowledge Of Bugs.

Futureheads

Sunderland-based playing guitar-led post punk in the style of Wire and Gang Of Four with a twist of XTC. There's four of them in the band and they all sing; not harmony or unison - but all different tunes at once that somehow intertwine. Punk opera, perhaps?

Bombay Bicycle Club

A group of schoolfriends - not even very long ago - formed Bombay Bicycle Club and, under-appreciated in school, took their music out on the London gig circuit, which led to them opening the V Festival in August 2006. They released their debut EP later that year and, still in their teenage years, have received national acclaim for their efforts.

Four piece pop group, Wild Beasts are a mix of many different styles with songs that sound as different from each other as possible, with some almost operatic style vocals.
