Public Gallery Needs Your Dog
Public Gallery in West Bromwich, one of Britain’s largest and most ambitious cultural projects, is currently recruiting UK-based dogs to take part in a forthcoming exhibition by internationally acclaimed artist, Shari Hatt. Shari Hatt takes unusual portrait images of dogs that manage to ‘seduce us with our own love of dogs’. The Canadian born, award winning photographic artist has an uncommon rapport with animals, dogs in particular and this rare partnership is clearly evident in the resulting images. Although Hatt, a self-described lover of kitsch has previously explored a wide range of cultural figures such as Elvis and Liberace, she is more widely known for her inimitable dog portraits. Importantly, the exhibition is accompanied by a working ‘Dog Portrait Studio’ and the gallery team and artist will be recruiting 96 canine subjects locally, regionally and nationally to be photographed on-site in West Bromwich throughout December.
