More Information

Elbow

Elbow

Gritty romantic realism from this melancholic and emotional guitar-based band from Manchester, England. Nominated for Best British Newcomer at the 2002 Brit Awards and triumphant winners of the 2008 Nationwide Mercury Music Prize.

Kraftwerk

Kraftwerk

The German Gods of electronic music, Kraftwerk have been electronica pioneers and flag-bearers since the late 70s and show no signs of slowing down. Songs like 'The Model' (a no 1 UK single), 'Trans-Europe Express', 'The Robots' and 'Tour De France' inspired a generation of bedroom pioneers to pick up their keyboards and play. Without them, modern dance music (ambient, techno and trance) would be a far darker place - if it were there at all.

Massive Attack

Massive Attack

One of the most innovative bands that the UK has ever produced, responsible for the sound of the summer, in 1991 with the release of the critically acclaimed Blue Lines. The second album Protection with collaborations with Tracey Thorn and Horace Andy was an even bigger success; both albums have sold well over a million copies each. The third album Mezzanine was a much darker affair and features the vocals of Liz Fraser (Cocteau Twins) and Sara Jay.

MGMT

MGMT

New York duo Andrew Vanwyngarden and Ben Goldwasser, who, after finding a shared love of obscure, twee music, started MGMT and began making their deliciously sparkly retro pop, heavily influenced by the likes of Bowie, Spaceman 3 and The Incredible String Band.

With their incredible songs and breathtaking harmonies, it's easy to see why these guys were the toast of SXSW. Fleet Foxes have drawn on a variety of influences from gospel, hymns, folk, motown, baroque pop to country-rock.

Seasick Steve

Seasick Steve

This is the real deal. Having learnt about the hobo lifestyle early on in life (via many a freight train) Steve 'Seasick' Wold has developed a vivid and wholly authentic folk-blues style. He's been playing music professionally since the 1970s and still has it today.

Lily Allen

Lily Allen

For a London girl who kick-started her career on the Internet, Lily Allen is flying higher than ever. With hit singles Smile and Everything's Wonderful under her belt the new princess of pop can do no wrong. Her cheeky songs, down-to-earth lyrics and dramatic sense of fashion have earned her a place at the top of the charts and have seen her climb her way out of Internet-based cultdom, into mainstream critical acclaim.

Klaxons

Klaxons

Neo-rave meets indie rock trio from London who merge guitars with synthesized sound to create their unique acid-rave sci-fi punk-funk sound. With influences ranging from Bowie to KLF, Klaxons' art-rock-rave-revolution has been setting fire to dancefloors across the country. Have your glow sticks ready, and listen out for their bizarre cover of Grace's 1999 anthem 'Not Over Yet'!

Bat For Lashes

Sublimely twisted folk made up of pianos, guitars, harpsichords and wistful electronics, embellished by the transcendent voice of the beautiful Natasha Khan. Surrounded by myth and legend, largely created by Khan herself, Bat for Lashes are more than just music; 'a never-ending story of fantastic dreams and heartbreaking reality - the chapters unfold with a sense of wonder and slow, powerfully evoked drama. Bat For Lashes inhabit a magical kingdom you wont want to leave.' (The Guardian)

Doves

Doves

One of the UK's best indie rock bands (and former members of 'Sub Sub) whose first two albums have allowed the band to dispense with comparisons and forge their own sound. Mellow guitar-driven indie with irresistable chord arrangements, which sometimes give way to playful dance undercurrents, their Glasto 2002 and 2003 sets have been festival highlights for any lucky enough to hear them.

The Horrors

The Horrors

Bridging the unseen gap between mod, goth and punk music, The Horrors have burst onto the scene, spurting a no-nonsense mix of London rock and theatrical punk.
