Although The Hold Steady's sound will probably appeal to fans of older bands such as Eels, Ben Folds and The Lemonheads, their sound is bang-up-to-date, illustrated by the success of their 2008 single 'Sequestered In Memphis'.

Philadelphia's The War On Drugs make lovely, swimming ambient folk-rock with a retro slant and a dreamlike quality not too far from acts such as Dead Meadow, Band Of Horses or Black Mountain. American music at its sentimental, country-inspired best.
