Gossip

Gossip

This Arkansas trio have weapons of mass destruction in their no high-hat style drumming, innovative guitar tuning and charming vocals. All of these create a bluesy nu-wave garage rock sound. Photo: Larissa James.

Kasabian

Kasabian

A glorious synth-tinged melting pot of indie rock that will caress the eardrums. Formed in Leicester while still at school, they took their name from Linda Kasabian, one of the members of the Charles Manson cult. Their electronica-indie rock fusion akin to Primal Scream combined with the rough vocal style and unrepentant Mancunian swagger of Oasis has firmly established them as more than just a flash in the pan and injected a large dose of energy back into the Brit-rock scene.

Interpol

Interpol

American alt rock band Interpol, whose critically acclaimed Turn On The Bright Lights and Antics have propelled them to international fame. Expect choppy post-punk with hints of Pixies, Modest Mouse and Joy Division.

For more information, see the website

Maximo Park

Maximo Park

Rock band from Newcastle whose tightly-wound songs are biting, contemporary takes on the familiar feelings of being trapped in a small town and desperately needing to escape. The tunes vibrate with contained energy, and the anger more than occasionally spills out into faster, harder pop-rock.

Mika

Mika

Were Queen and ABBA to be caught in a car crash, Mika would be the mutant that crawled out of the wreckage. The Beirut-born star was vocally trained at London's Royal Opera school and developed a fetish for pop hits in his adult years, from there taking it upon himself to become a unique and glorious pop star.

The Pigeon Detectives

The Pigeon Detectives

The Leeds-based Pigeon Detectives play an exciting blend of rock'n'roll born out of a love for classic rock music and the indie rock of the 1990s. 'Perfect fodder for indie fans who like to jump up and down as if it's 1995, this band's crunching guitar is simple but effective' says Camden Evening News, reflecting quite accurately the Pigeon Detectives' ethos- to play exciting music to packed out venues.

The Twang

The Twang

Birmingham based indie group declared by the NME as 'the next big thing'. Sounding like a cross between The Stone Roses and The Streets, The Twang are rock'n'roll at its best. 'Swaggering, big hearted rock'n'roll mischief...' - NME.
