Opened in 1991, Blackbrook Zoological Bird Park is now one of the largest collections of birds in the UK, set in over 30 acres of beautiful Staffordshire Moorlands countryside and home to over 200 species of rare, endangered and some even critically endangered birds.
Blackbrook are members of the IWWA (International Wild and Waterfowl Association) and are proud to have one of the World's most impressive collections of waterfowl. The collection includes a friendly group of Humboldt Penguins, Pelicans, Flamingos, Storks, Cranes, Emus and more. There are also some fabulous species of aviary birds, including Ibis and Spoonbills, an extensive Owl collection, pair of Kookaburras and not forgetting the World's most dangerous bird, the Cassowary!
Blackbrook is also home to some intriguing small mammals, including a family of meerkats, ring-tailed lemurs and an unusual pair of critically endangered Warty pigs from the Philippines, on loan from the Philippino Government as part of their breeding programme.
They also have a very successful breeding programme and are proud of achievements including the first breeding of the Marabou Stork, and Boat Billed Herons and the breeding of the rare Secretary Bird and the White Ibis. They also famously bred the first Darwin's Rhea in over 100 years!
