The Small Venue With A Big Reputation!
Since 2005, The Donkey has not only built a reputation as an intimate venue, with a live-wire atmosphere, but for presenting low-key gigs by major name acts. Drawn by appreciative audiences and great sound the 200 capacity Victorian room has played host to such great acts as: Fun Lovin Criminals, Alabama 3, The South, Duke Special, Seth Lakeman, Michelle Shocked, James Hunter Six, Mountain of Love, David Ford, The Slackers, Raghu Dixit, Danny & the Champions of the World, Smoove & Turrell, Hymn For Her, The Urban Voodoo Machine, The Travelling Band, Benjamin Schoos, Sweet Billy Pilgrim, New Cool Collective, Pete Molinari, John Power, Miles Hunt, Martin Stephenson, Fish, Toploader, Wreckless Eric, The High Llamas, Hank Wangford, Los Pistoleros, Dawn Kinnard, Vijay Kishore, Dr. Robert, Rhoda Dakar, Roddy Radiation, Charlie Chuck, Tommy Womack, El Pussycat Ska, Kingsize, Kingston Town, David Wyatt, The Kirkland Turn, Out Of Karma, Drugstore Cowboys, Uncle Frank, By The Rivers, Yellowbelly
Both landlord Warren's legendary bonhomie and promoter Gaz Birtles knowledge of the music business are evident in the care and love shown to all aspects of this independent establishment. It's an approach that above anything else treats both musicians and customers alike as friends.
Located just outside of the Leicester city centre and close to both of the Universities, the Donkey also boasts a large beer garden and car park, free WiFi and offers a wide range of lagers, bottled beer, wine and real ales as well as fresh ground coffee daily.
