ZSL London Zoo is set on a 36 acre site in Regent's Park, North London. The Zoo opened in 1828, two years after the Zoological Society of London was founded by Sir Stamford Raffles. It has housed many famous animals over the years, perhaps most notably Jumbo the elephant (the origin of the word 'jumbo' to mean large) and Guy the gorilla. Now home to over 650 species, and many fantastic exhibits, ZSL London Zoo is a great day out for the whole family. Visitors can get up close to many of the animals at the Zoo, in one of the many immersive exhibits. See the inhabitants of the rainforest as they run around the treetops in front of you, and make sure you haven't picked up any hitch-hikers as you wander through Butterfly Paradise. A visit to Gorilla Kingdom and the Blackburn Pavilion are musts for every visitor. With a packed daily events programme and many special events happening throughout the year, ZSL London Zoo is the perfect place to spend your free time.
