Cardiff SU is a good venue but the bar has gone badly wrong recently. No draft beer or cider at all. There are very few bottles to choose from. At £3 a bottle for weak lager, you'd struggle to get anything approaching drunk. Perhaps this is some new Health and Safety policy?!

Cardiff Students' Union is right next to Cathays (pronounced Catays) railway station which has regular trains to and from Cardiff Central. Although there are entrances to the building either side of the railway line, if you come from Central, you need to cross over the footbridge to get to the gigs entrance.
