This small venue, upstairs at a pub, was originally used occasionally to offer bands an alternative venue to play when the Fleece closed down a few years ago due to a fire.
Ever since then it's taken a life of its own and has seen big bands play before they've crossed over into the charts. Travis, Stereophonics, Scissor Sisters, Divine Comedy, White Stripes, they've all played here. Of course plenty of bands who've never made it have to!!
It's a great venue for catching up and coming bands at a reasonable price before they move onto the Academy, Colston Hall, etc. The amount of people who've claimed they saw the White Stripes at the Loui is far greater than the actual number who were there!
On the down side, when a gig is sold out it it makes it very difficult to get a view unless you're at the very front due to the low stage. And even harder to see if a certain tall chap with afro hair is attending!
Also it's usually unbearably hot with sweat pouring off everyone, although a new air conditioning vent has now been installed which has made a subtle difference.
Nevertheless, the Louisiana is definately a cosy, friendly venue where you can catch the stars of tomorrow today. It also supports many local bands and hosts music 7 nights a week!
