Sonisphere: Apollo Stage: Iron Maiden + Pendulum + Alice In Chains + Slayer + Skindred + Madina Lake
Having established itself as the "Best New Festival" at the 2009 UK Festival Awards, Sonisphere moves forward with some phenomenal headliners for 2010. This groundbreaking travelling rock circus, hosting eleven smaller events throughout Europe covers a broad spectrum of the rock scene. And in support of new and emerging talent, this year sees the addition of the Red Bull Bedroom Jam Stage, allowing eight bands chosen by the public to play at the festival. With the UK event based just outside of London, travelling to the festival is very straightforward. See uk.sonispherefestivals.com for further information.
One of the original 80s New Wave of British Heavy Metal bands, and without doubt the most successful. Now back with Bruce Dickenson behind the mic, Iron Maiden are regarded as the greatest metal band of them all, their inspiration spreading far and wide and spanning all ages. Few bands can claim to have kept their original audience and successfully enticed on board a new generation, who weren't even in the cradle when the band first hit the stage running! Yet Iron Maiden have achieved just this in their 25 years plus career.

Pendulum have established themselves as one of the most exciting live acts around, having played headline tours and festivals around the world. The Pendulum sound has evolved since the band's formation in Western Australia nine years ago and, from drum 'n' bass origins, now combines electronic beats and synthesisers with more traditional rock instruments.

Coming out of the US rock scene in the '90s, Alice in Chains were hard enough to be respectable for a metal fans yet textured and melodic enough to entice the alternative crowd. Following the death of lead singer Layne Staley, Alice In Chains took a break, but reformed in 2005 with a new vocalist, William DuVall. Jerry Cantrell is still the driving force behind the band, his influence remaining strong with overlapping vocal lines, down tuned dramatic blues riffs and punctuated power chords.

The Grandaddies of Thrash are still going and are just as brutal as ever. Controversial from the word go, and as extreme as anything that had gone before, Slayer shook the metal world to its foundations in the 80s with a succession of intense, violent and hugely popular albums. Two decades later and Slayer are still one of the biggest draws on the metal circuit.

A powerful mixture of ragga, punk and metal, Skindred have to be heard to be believed. With bits of dancehall, drum'n'bass and jungle thrown in for good measure, Skindred have a truly original sound; 'For Skindred, its all about the music, education, entertainment and 100% vibes.' (Benji – Skindred)
