I definitely had fun at this gig. Their début album packs some tuneful, jaunty pop songs, with catchy choruses perfect to sing along to. Roy (the frontman) had a good connection with the audience, in particular the gaggle of girls at the front.

I didn't go with any serious expectations that what I was going to get would be anything more than I got on the album. Which is just as well because I didn't feel that the live experience enhanced any aspect of the music in particular, other than it being quite exciting for me to be so close to the band, this being the first intimate gig I had been to.

I think with this type of music you have to embrace it for what it is. I genuinely had a good time jumping around and yelling the chorus to 'She's So Lovely' at the end. It's not going to change your world, but it's good fun.

On a quick aside, the first support band were brilliant, I wish I knew who they were, the second support were not so good. I really like the venue, it has a good vibe.

I have seen Scouting for Girls a number of times and am always impressed at how good they are, even better than I have remembered. (I think I was at the same gig as Rose from Newport.) Don't bother going if you're interesting in being and looking cool; it's not going to work. It's impossible not to dance along to their infectious music and chances are you'll end up grinning like an idiot. They're one of the few bands I've seen where I'm happy to participate rather than resentful.

The worst thing about them is that they're too good. As they become more successful, they play in increasingly big venues and I think some of the magic will be lost.

Look out for Roy's legs dancing in time to the piano!
