Event Venue: Classic Grand, Glasgow
Well, I thought it was just going to be another Glenn Tilbrook gig, with the obligatory hundred Squeeze songs - but I was wrong! We got a few Squeeze songs, sure, but as we were reminded at one point (to the tag line in Coffee in Bed that "this is not a Squeeze gig, not a Squeeze gig" and quite rightly so.
Have to say that the Classic Grand is a great wee venue and I think it suited Glenn quite well. He and the band played their hearts out with lots of songs from all of his solo albums, along with my personal favourite - Untouchable from Transatlantic Ping Pong. As I said, he did play some Squeeze songs - Some Fantastic Place - amongst others but the highlight of the evening was when he got members of the audience involved by putting their names in a hat when they came into the venue and if you got your name pulled out of the hat, you got to go up on stage and he would sing a song t you.
Now, I'd like to be able to say it was me, but sadly not - it was two lucky women whose names both happened to be Alison and he sang Tempted for them - with them on backing vocals!
All in all, one of the great entertainers, great songwriter in his own right and I am so glad it was a Glenn Tilbrook gig and not a Squeeze gig. Always good to see him in Glasgow.

Event Venue: Carling Academy Islington
Glenn never disappoints. The Academy was not full, which was disappointing, and I think there were some there expecting a lot of Squeeze songs, but with his third solo/with the Fluffers album on its way, he has more than enough material not to have to play too many Squeeze songs. There were a couple but his solo songs, whilst not so well known to Joe Public, are just as strong. The songs off the forthcoming album went down well. Even Lucy gets to sing now, Steve Large is such a great pianist and Simon is as good as any other drummer that has backed Glenn over the years (and I include Gilson in that). If you're a fan, you won't be disappointed and if you're not, go anyway, you will enjoy it

Just echoing what the others have said for other locations on this tour. I've been to loads of Glenn gigs - on his own, Squeeze in the old days and more recently, as well as with the Fluffers (3 times), and this is the first time I've come away disappointed. Not with the musicianship, or the energy, or the charisma - but just one or two more old favourites would have made all the difference. I too like Untouchable and was more familiar with Transatlantic Ping Pong, The incomplete Glenn Tilbrook, etc. than the friends I was with, but it felt like one unfamiliar song after another after another - with the dawning realisation that it wasn't going to change. If I had never seen The Fluffers before I wouldn't have been surprised, but at previous gigs there's been much more crowd-pleasing, lots of Squeeze stuff as well as new stuff, inpromptu singalongs in the interval, etc. The band is amazing and they played their hearts out but by the end I was feeling a bit too irritated to appreciate it properly. So in a way it was a great gig (and a highlight was Chris Difford and Jonny Bentley getting up on stage for Black Coffee in Bed, which opened the 2nd half) and I wouldn't want to put anyone off going, and I certainly wish Glenn all the best of success with anything he does in the future (he really deserves it) but I just wish he could have set our expectations a little bit lower so we weren't all waiting for the Squeeze stuff. Glenn, if you read this please don't take it to heart but just put something on the posters or the tickets or something to indicate that the audience shouldn't expect a Squeeze gig.
With Difford and Tilbrook, the whole is greater than the sum of the parts, if you know what I mean, and although they have created some good songs independently, let's face it, the stuff they created together is really in a different league.
I saw Glenn Tilbrook at a couple of festivals and was pleasantly surprised. I'm not a fan who wanted/didn't want Squeeze songs and had no expectations of what he'd play. I don't really know many Squeeze songs so it was all new to me. I was impressed by his performance and his ability to charm the audience seemingly effortlessly.

Saw Glenn & the Fluffers
disappointed
He played a lot of stuff off their unreleased new CD
which the crowd did not know
Only played 4 Squeeze songs
and only a few off his two solo albums
he should know how to please the crowd
I've seen Glenn 15 tomes and this is the first time I have walked away unhappy
and saying that I won't go to any more Tilbrook Gigs
