What readers are saying aboutMagic - A Kind Of ELO» See tour dates |
We saw "Magic" at the Guildhall in Preston a few months ago.
The lead singer was embarrasingly poor, and no better than an average standard karaoke merchant.
When they initially appeared on stage I honestly thought it was a wind up, cringeworthy does not even come close, my blood runs cold at the thought of them butchering ELO songs such as Rockeria, he could not reach any high notes and just kept placing his tongue into the inside of each cheek, bizaare in the extreme, we only went because my son loves my queen CD collection,he is seven and has not asked for or played a Queen song since.
I am not sure what happened to my previous post, but as far as i am concerned, the band are a happy, 6-piece unit, every member does their job well, you get one of the best keyboard players in the UK and a great night of ELO or Queen music is provided.
No, they are not a look-alike band, but then we have seen many lookalikes who were hopeless at reproducing the music and/or rely on backing tracks.
Keep on trucking guys, we have seen you 60+ times and will keep on turning up for more!
Ian and Liz.

i agree with paul the band ruin the songs and the singer is just too old for it to work as elo or queen which they also do. the singer also has a very weak voice which was not able to do the higher notes. terrible concert. we wont be going again.
I have followed Magic a kind of queen for many years and have always found them to be a fantastic live act, even achieving bohemium rhapsody live (all the way through) which even queen themselves never achieved on stage without a sound backing track.
The lead singer , Roger Brown, is brilliant and has a fantastic range. If others class him as karaoke quality then they must be tone deaf.
Go and enjoy a great show !
I saw ELO on their Out of the Blue tour back in the late 70s and I can honestly say Magic's gigs as ELO are just as good. I've seen the ELO set many times and never been disappointed. The range of musicianship, and the shared vocals between lead singer Roger Brown and Bass player Charlie Sutton mean there's certainly never a problem covering the wide range. The new keyboard player seems able to recreate an entire orchestra on his own. You won't be disappointed if you're lucky enough to get to see a Magic - ELO gig. I just wish there were more of them on the date list.
