Saw Ricky tonight and, whilst he was sound, the night was essentially a throwback to 1970's humour ...sadly not so funny and represented poor VFM in my view.
Ricky has enough clout to do his own tour talking about his life and sharing stories and its a pity he's effectively acting as compere to a bunch of acts best left in the 1970's. Ricky was barely on stage but if you find Benny Hill and variety funny then it may be worth your hard earned money. One of the acts - Frank Barton was politically on really dodgy ground. I confess the night as a whole felt disappointing despite Black Onyx's displays of talents in this genre.
Ricky does meet the crowd afterwards and signs his book which you can pick up for £8 so it is a chance to meet the great man himself!

I only wish I had read the other reviews before going! It started off not too bad with Ricky's stories of his life but really went downhill when the comedians came on - what an absolute load of rubbish. After the interval hoped that things couldn't get any worse. Obviously not everybody had the same hope - there were a lot more empty seats for part 2. What can I say about Black Onyx! Their bit was totally outdated and cringeworthy. Their comment was something along the lines of 'we are going to fit 10 minutes of great entertainment into 30 minutes haha' - more like we had a total of 10 minutes of entertainment in 3 very long hours! People were starting to leave throughout their act, we unfortunately endured the whole thing and were horrified to hear they were doing an encore. Can anyone please tell me what is funny about someone dressed as a builder (?!!) producing a false leg and attempting to do Riverdance like a dad at a wedding?? The funniest thing was the guy playing his drum machine failed to notice it wasnt switched on anymore when he was playing it! A very disappointing night out.All Ricky was interested in was plugging the programme and his book. The biggest laugh we had was in the car on the way home re-living the low-lights of the show!!

Ever been to a gig where the artist plugged the programme? I just have - and that was one of the better bits. What a massive disappointment. Ricky was little more than a compare plugging his book and the support was dire. Ricky's sad old mates benefit night more like. And as for Black Onyx - words fail me! Possibly the worst 45 minutes you will ever see. Where is Simon Cowell when you need him. I the audience had had red buttons, they would have been off in seconds. Not worthy of The Comedians circa 1970. Laughter Show? My a**e!
I saw Ricky's show on Friday night 8th of may if we was all given buzzers like Britons got talent we would have buzzed after 2 min's it was that bad. Ricky came on at first and spent the whole time name dropping of who he had met over the years I thought he let him self down but good luck to him. The comedians was so disappointing to. As for the two so called impersonators in the second half well it was an embarrassments. Ricky dose meet you on the way out but I thought he could have done a lot more like play his banjo & tell jokes he is a great man in his own rights it a shame he felt the need to bring the others with him ! !

I was so dissappointed. Ricky Tomlinson was fine, but not as funny as I thought he would be. However he comes across as a really nice guy and I did enjoy his laid back style; it's like he's telling mates about something amsuing that has happened to me.
But the other acts .............. Tony Barton thinks he's funny - he's not. I could just about cope with Eddie Archie - I'm young enough not to have heard all the jokes before and did find myself laughing - but Black Onyx: I can't believe that they have the nerve to go on stage with this rubbish. It was so bad I could hardly believe my eyes. I went to Ricky Tomlinson, not "acts" whose material is 30 years out of date. What a let down.
