Event Date: April 12, 2009
Event Venue: Bitter End - Romford

Have you ever walked into a bar to see a mate of a mates band and then been embarrassed by how bad they were?

Well I was. And then even more embarrassed as they were totally blown away by one of the other bands on the night, who made my trip to the Bitter End more than worthwhile.

Shotgun Heart Club came onto the stage unknown to me and then brought the bar alive unlike any other unsigned band I have ever seen. A quite naturally brilliant rock and roll yet bluesy sound, accompanied by musicianship that showed people really can impress without one, ruining the song and two, playing one hundred notes a minute.

I don't like to compare bands to others, but think of The Doors, mixed with Jonny Cash, The White Stripes, The Black Keys and I could even throw Chuck Berry into the mix. That might sound like rock and roll/Americana madness and it was, in a totally blissful way.

So if you are walking by a bar in Essex or London and see Shotgun Heart Club are about to play, stop what you are doing and enter, they are one of the true hidden talents out there.

Cheers
