I attended Jonathan Ansell's 'A Night At The Opera' at Glasgow's Royal Concert Hall last night.
The venue is on the corner of Buchanan Street and Sauchiehall Street next to Buchanan Galleries shopping centre.
A smart intimate venue with a seating capacity of 2475. The front row of the stalls is about 2-3 feet from the stage, and, because the stage is low you get a great view from there. There is tierd seating at the sides and up on the balcony.
The box office is situated around the the back of the hall up some huge steps. The front of the venue is opposite Buchanan Bus Station.
There is a multistorey car park adjacent to the venue/shopping centre. It's quite expensive - £15 for 9 hours. But it's only £1.20 from 6 pm uintil 11.30. It's worth driving out and back in at 6 pm if you land in Glasgow in the afternoon. I did that and save myself £6. Please note the closing time of 11.30 pm. If you plan something after the concert/event you will have to move your car elsewhere. The car park has machines that will take credit cards as well as coins and notes.
The venue has it's own little cafe, but not a huge range of food available. There is a bar opposite the venue next to the bus station, though I didn't have time to check it out. If you don't mind a 5 min walk I would recommend Wetherspoons in George Square for food.
Staff are friendly and helpful. [less]

Bryan Ferry's Concert on 13 April 2007 was one of his best yet.
A local lad, who was one of the original members of Roxy Music (drummer), Paul Thompson turned up. He was to play on the last three songs.
Guitarist Guy Pratt was also there. he has played in the past for Robert Palmer and Pink Floyd.
I had a front row centre seat. We all stood up on the first song and I was against the stage right next to Bryan Ferry with an excellent view of him, Guy Pratt and Andy Newmark. I couldn't really see the others because of speakers and stuff at the front of the stage blocking my view - it is a high stage.
The whole place was rocking from the first note of The In Crowd and Bryan was loving it! He said how he had been going to the City Hall since he was 10 years old and hadn't seen an audience as good a us. He sang a jumping set through Dylan covers from his new album to Roxy's Tokyo Joe and Casanova and old classics Love Is The Drug and Jealous Guy. All Along The Watchtower and Gates of Eden were great tracks from his new album, Dylanesque. I was disappointed that he had dropped Just Like You from the set list, but it was brilliant. There were huge cheers when The Great Paul Thompson joined the band on drums for the last three songs! One of the best gigs yet.
Bryan Ferry loves to have the audience on it's feet. So be prepared to stand up and have a dance along to some of his amazing music. [less]

The Sage Gateshead stands on the banks of the River Tyne, outshining surrounding buildings with it's modern glass design.
This building was designed for outstanding acoustics, and it does deliver. A year ago I saw Bryan Ferry perform there and the sound was amazing compared to other venues. Similarly last night at Jonathan Ansell's 'A Night At The Opera' show.
It is a lovely intimate venue with a seating capacity of 1600 people. It has a low stage, so no problem seeing from the very 'up close and personal' front row! So nice to be within touching distance of your favourite artist!
Besides the stall seating there are two more levels. I'm not sure of the view from the top level, but the second level is very good for those who like to be a bit further back and up a height.
The Sage is very modern and conveniently has it's own cafe, restaurant and bars. The cafe has an assortment of hot and cold drinks, sandwiches, cakes and hot food.
The bars are on the next level up, one in the East Hall and one in the West.Having not tried the restaurant yet I cannot comment, but it is situated behind the cafe area and the prices seem reasonable.
The car park is reasonably priced at £3.50 for over 3 hours (cheaper than the Arena which is £5) - at the time of writing this.
Looking out for the huge glass walls of the Sage is a fantastic view of the River Tyne, which is even more beautiful in the evening when everything is lit up. You have the Tyne Bridge at one end and the Millennium Bridge at the other.
The only downside I have for this venue is the audience. For some reason they tend to insist on being rooted to their seats. Could they be bothered to stand on their feet for a standing ovation last night - NO, or for a bit of a jig when Bryan Ferry was performing? No. So if you are a performer, or you prefer more of an electric atmosphere - choose Newcastle City Hall instead. [less]

He started by saying Hello Newcastle and making fun of the geordie accent and people driving around Newcastle in those huge 4x4s, going on to make fun of the French. He talked about different nationalities, religion, sex and life in general. He was absolutely hilarious just talking about everyday things in life. I was crying with laughter. The whole audience was in fits of laughter all the way through.
One tip though - do not take your camera. He doesn't like people taking photographs of him. Though he will sign autographs. [less]

I would definitely recommend going to see Jonathan Ansell. He has the most amazing voice and such a talent for holding the longest notes!
Even if you are not a classical music/opera fan you can appreciate his fantastic voice. His current show 'A Night at the Opera' has some great comedy in it along with some well known operatic hits like Nessun Dorma, Figaro, O Sole Mio etc. A cast of 6 strong singers, including Jonathan himself, play this story of a young man conscripted to war.
I have followed Jonathan since the beginning of G4. I am by no means a classical fan, loving G4's Bohemian Rhapsody, Crazy, Beautiful, Yellow and Cry Me a River most of all, but Jonathan's voice is so addictive. I never thought I could sing along to lyrics in a different language until G4, and now in 'A Night At the Opera'.
You have to see him to really appreciate what I mean.
Also, to meet him is such a pleasure. He is the nicest, genuine, down to earth and generous man. He is so sweet and is happy to sign autographs and have photographs with fans. [less]
